Train the Owner
This is a two-part intensive program designed to help average dog owners experience the results of a board and train program without ever having to leave their dog's side. Our professional trainers take you step-by-step through the entire training and rehabilitation process to help you train your own dog.

What is covered in Train the Owner 1.0?

Topics include but are not limited to: dog history, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, training equipment fit and use, languages, sequencing, basic and advanced obedience, threshold work, dog drives, human body language, dog body language, e-collar education and application, crate training, play and its benefits for behavioral issues, dropping toys and items on command, counterconditioning for fear or aggression toward touch, muzzles, collars, leashes, nails, grooming, and more, socialization with dogs and people, treadmill and cycling concepts, hormones, appeasement behavior, displacement behavior, leash skills, public training, home structure and set up, solutions for problem behaviors such as fear, anxiety, aggression, reactivity, resource guarding, jumping, barking, whining, nipping fighting housemates, potty training, insecurity, OCD behaviors, high prey drive, territorial behaviors, and more!

Students will work hands-on with their dogs 2+ hours per day.
What is the cost?

Registration is $3,500 per family (this includes one primary handler, one secondary handler if necessary, and one dog. All handlers must be 18 years of age and older.) Although you are not required, you are highly encouraged to bring your own dog. Each participant may bring up to 1 dog for the duration of the program. Heather's K9 Community will not be providing working dogs for this program. A 50% non refundable deposit required to reserve a seat, the other 50% due 7 days prior the start of the program. Ticket price does not include meals, lodging, or training equipment. Dogs must board with the owner/handler.

Vaccine requirements?

ALL dogs must be up to date on Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, and Bordetella. Dogs must also have negative fecal test results. Fecal test must be done 30 days prior to program start date and include testing for Giardia (this is something you must request, as it is not included in a basic fecal test). Should your dog test positive for Giardia this will allow time to treat and have a retest done.
What will I need to bring for my dog?

Dogs must attend on a well-fitting martingale collar and 6ft leash. Any changes to equipment will be recommended to you after the trainer has had time to get to know your dog. Dogs with reactivity or aggression will be handled with Heather and the owners throughout the class. Owners are also required to bring their dog’s favorite toys, a treat bag, food for their dog, and a 15ft long line.
Is there anything I need to do prior to the program?

What is covered in Train the Owner 2.0?

Topics include but are not limited to: all topics from Train the Owner 1.0 will be covered in more depth in addition to pack drive (what it is, how to cultivate it, and how to get it on command), prey drive (what it is, how to control it, how to satisfy it, how to use it for behavioral rehabilitation, and how to put it on command), defense drive (what it is and how to teach our dogs to choose flight over fight if necessary), predation, advanced play concepts, e-collar for each drive, spatial pressure, claiming territory for issues like doorbell reactivity and fence fighting, resource guarding, socialization with dogs and people, dog body language, advocacy, differential reinforcement, counterconditioning, vet exams, grooming, and more!
